Between 2018 and 2025, imports of crispbread, rusks, and toasted bread into Bosnia and Herzegovina more than doubled in volume, rising from 636 tons to 1 511 tons. Over the same period, exports fell sharply from 1 378 tons to 473 tons. This shift transformed the country's trade balance, making it increasingly reliant on imported products to meet domestic demand.

From 2021 onward, the domestic market volume showed consistent growth, increasing from 494 tons to 1 119 tons in 2024. This expansion occurred alongside a decline in local production, which dropped from 342 tons to 245 tons. The market's growth was therefore entirely supported by the concurrent rise in imports and contraction of exports.

After two years of decline, Bosnia and Herzegovina's exports of crispbread, rusks, toasted bread, and similar toasted products rebounded. In 2021, exports totaled 914 tonnes, showing no significant change from 2020. Over the period from 2018 to 2021, exports decreased by 33.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of -12.8%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2020 at 910 tonnes, while the largest decline occurred in 2019 with a drop of 22.9%.

From 2018 to 2021, Denmark, Croatia, and Bulgaria were the main destinations for Bosnia and Herzegovina's crispbread, rusks, toasted bread, and similar toasted products exports in kind. Denmark accounted for 33.5% of exports, Croatia for 31.5%, and Bulgaria for 6.4%, together making up 71.5% of total exports in kind.

In 2021, exports reached 1 297 thousand US dollars, marking a significant rise of 11.5% compared to the previous year. Between 2018 and 2021, exports decreased by 20%, equating to an annualized rate of -7.2%. The lowest value was recorded in 2020 at 1 164 thousand US dollars, with the largest decline occurring in 2019 at 24.0%.
