Earlier Report Observations

The cottonseed oil market in the Americas grew from 572.4 тыс. т in 2018 to 606.3 тыс. т in 2019, supported by increased U.S. export volumes which indicated rising production. However, the market contracted to 559.6 тыс. т in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains and dampened demand, coupled with a notable drop in U.S. export value.

A slight recovery to 564.8 тыс. т occurred in 2021, driven by growing consumer preference for non-genetically modified and refined oils, alongside expanding industrial and cosmetic applications that diversified demand. The market then fell to 523.7 тыс. т in 2022, primarily due to adverse climatic conditions affecting cotton supply and stringent refining requirements to remove toxic gossypol, which constrained production volumes.

A sharp rebound followed in 2023, with market volume reaching 614.6 тыс. т. This surge was fueled by sustained demand for sustainable, non-GMO oils in North America and new market-access strategies, including the launch of fixed-price packaging in key regions. Into 2024, the market continued to be shaped by major players like Archer Daniels Midland and Bunge, along with regulatory changes on labeling and food safety in the U.S. and Mexico.
