The cotton seeds market in Turkey saw considerable volume changes between 2018 and 2023. After reaching 1.54 million tons in 2018, market size declined to 1.08 million tons by 2020. This contraction occurred alongside the COVID-19 pandemic and global supply chain issues, which disrupted agricultural activities.

Market recovery started in 2021, fueled by enhanced state support for cotton farmers, including raised subsidy prices for certified seeds and diesel fuel. Domestic seed companies like MAY Tohum and ProGen contributed by launching new high-yield, high-fiber quality cotton varieties. Planting area expanded significantly, reaching a ten-year high in 2022. However, following this peak, the market volume fell to 1.28 million tons in 2023.

Turkey's cotton seed production declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 1,064 thousand tons, marking a significant 19.4% drop from the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, production fell by 27.6%, which translates to an average annual decrease of 10.2%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 1,542 thousand tons, with the largest year-on-year increase of 4.9% also occurring that year.

Turkey's cotton seed production value also declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the output was valued at 2,692 million US dollars, representing a 17.6% decrease compared to 2019. The peak value was reached in 2018 at 3,926 million US dollars, when the largest annual increase of 1.5% was recorded.

From 2017 to 2020, Azerbaijan was the dominant destination for Turkey's cotton seed exports in volume terms, accounting for 70.2% of total flows. Other markets held relatively smaller shares during this period.
