Earlier Report Observations

The ASEAN copra market volume showed considerable volatility from 2018 to 2023, beginning at 4 152 thousand tons and contracting for two consecutive years to a low of 3 533 thousand tons in 2020. This was followed by a robust recovery phase, with the market expanding by over 700 thousand tons to reach a peak of 4 271 thousand tons in 2022, before easing to 4 068 thousand tons in the following year.

The market's movement closely mirrored changes in domestic production, which fell to 3 571 thousand tons in 2020 before surging to 4 261 thousand tons in 2022. Trade flows remained a secondary factor, with net imports playing a modest role as exports fluctuated and imports generally declined over the period, contributing to the overall market dynamics without defining its primary direction.
