From 2018 to 2021, coffee production in Togo increased steadily from 19 076 t to 23 106 t, driven by state integration of the sector into the National Development Plan (PND 2018-2022) and funded programs for plantation maintenance, fertilization, and regeneration. The domestic market volume grew from 13 100 t to 20 273 t over the same period, accelerated in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted export forecasts, retaining more coffee locally.

Production reached a peak of 25 132 t in 2022, supported by Togo's accession to the International Coffee Agreement and the launch of mobile coffee sales via the E-Coffee startup's backpack initiative, which also promoted local consumption. However, a simultaneous rise in exports slightly reduced the domestic market volume that year. In 2023, production fell to 22 619 t, with sector reports citing climate-related challenges, contributing to a significant decline in market volume to 16 201 t.

Throughout the period, ongoing campaigns, the establishment of coffee kiosks in Lomé, barista training, and the promotion of the 'Made-In-Togo' label aimed to strengthen local processing and consumption, aligning with the government's Togo 2025 roadmap for the coffee-cocoa sector.

Market performance showed significant fluctuations during this period. Exports reached their lowest point in 2017 and peaked in 2018, with a 2.9-fold difference between these years. In 2020, Togo's shipments of coffee, husks, skins, and substitutes to foreign markets totaled 3 519 tonnes, a 36.0% decrease year-over-year. The highest export volume was recorded in 2018 at 6 056 tonnes, with the largest increase occurring that same year at 194.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, Morocco, Belgium, and Italy were the leading markets for Togo's exports in kind. Morocco accounted for 63.2% of exports, Belgium for 12.6%, and Italy for 11.1%. Together, these three countries represented 86.9% of total export flows.

In 2020, Togo's shipments of coffee, husks, skins, and substitutes abroad amounted to 5 849 thousand US dollars, reflecting a 33.2% decline compared to the previous year. The maximum value was recorded in 2019 at 8 757 thousand US dollars, with the largest increase that year at 287.6%.

Over the 2017-2020 period, imports decreased by 58.5%, with an average annual decline of 25.4%. The minimum value was recorded in 2019 at 43 thousand US dollars, with the largest decrease that year at 65.3%.
