From 2018 to 2020, the market volume for coffee, husks, skins, and substitutes in Benin experienced significant volatility. In 2018, the market stood at 283.9 t, supported by substantial imports of 229.8 t. However, in 2019, imports plummeted to 45.1 t, causing the market volume to drop sharply to 101.0 t. This decline occurred alongside the launch of construction for nine modern urban markets, a project aimed at upgrading commercial infrastructure to improve distribution channels.

Between 2021 and 2023, market volume fluctuated between 102.7 t and 127.4 t. The implementation of a support system by the Benin Chamber of Commerce to facilitate market authorization for agri-food products in 2021 reduced barriers to entry for suppliers.
