Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, Angola's coffee market volume declined from 13.9 thousand tons to 10.8 thousand tons. During this period, the National Coffee Institute (INCA) set a target to prepare 10 thousand new hectares for coffee cultivation by 2022, supported by funding from the Commercial Agriculture Development Project (PDAC). These initiatives aimed to revitalize the coffee value chain but coincided with an initial market contraction.

The downward trend continued through 2021 and 2022, with market volume falling to 5.8 thousand tons. In response, the government launched the National Coffee Harvest Campaign to mobilize 17 thousand producer families, while market leader Angonabeiro strengthened its position with the Delta Q brand and began exporting Ginga coffee to Switzerland. Despite these efforts to boost production and exports, domestic market volume kept decreasing.

In 2023, productivity measures such as the distribution of 5 million seedlings and vegetative multiplication programs helped raise production by 13% to 6.2 thousand tons. However, market volume remained low at 5.4 thousand tons as exports increased. New EU traceability regulations, requiring origin certification for coffee exports, also shaped trade flows during the latter part of the period.
