Earlier Report Observations

The African coconut oil market volume declined steadily from 116,150 t in 2018 to 98,469 t in 2021, reflecting a multi-year contraction. This trend reversed in 2022 with consumption rising to 105,250 t, before settling at 104,313 t in 2023, indicating a period of stabilization after the recovery.

Market dynamics during this period were accompanied by regional developments. In 2021, the severe drop in Kenyan tourism revenue led some businesses to diversify into coconut oil manufacturing, introducing new producers. Later, by 2024, national policies in Kenya and Ghana emphasized increasing local coconut output and processing, while stricter European Union regulations on vegetable oil imports began affecting export-oriented production standards across the continent.
