The citrus fruit market in Samoa experienced a contraction in 2020, with volume falling to 1 548 t. This decline was driven by weakened consumer demand, which led to a 14.6% drop in agricultural produce supply to local markets and a 9.1% decrease in the average price index. Shipment limitations and reduced demand in key export markets such as Australia and New Zealand further contributed by curtailing fruit and nut exports.

Market volume rebounded sharply to 1 807 t in 2021, supported by government financial inflows and assistance programs aimed at mitigating COVID-19 economic impacts, which helped sustain household consumption. Increased exports of processed fruit preparations also indicated renewed activity in the sector. After this recovery, the market volume moderated to 1 706 t in 2022 and edged up slightly to 1 715 t in 2023.
