Following a 4.8% contraction in 2020, the market resumed growth, reaching 741.9 thousand tons in 2021 and 770.0 thousand tons in 2023. Domestic production, which consistently accounted for over 99% of the market, mirrored this trajectory, while imports remained minimal and exports were absent.

In 2019, Malawi's citrus fruit production reached its peak at 669.1 thousand tonnes. However, in 2020, production declined to 636.9 thousand tonnes, marking a 4.8% decrease from the previous year.
