Maldives has seen its citrus fruit production volume grow for the third year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 77 220 kg of citrus fruit, marking a modest year-over-year increase of 1.2%. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production rose by 2.4%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 0.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main sources for citrus fruit imports to Maldives were Vietnam, South Africa, and Egypt. Vietnam accounted for 30.5% of imports in kind, South Africa for 28.2%, and Egypt for 24.4%. Together, these three countries made up 83.1% of total import flows during this period.

By 2020, import volume had dropped to 6 945 K $ US, which is 22.3% lower than the previous year. Over the entire 2017–2020 span, imports fell by 8.6%, averaging an annual decline of 2.9%.
