From 2018 to 2023, the citrus fruit market in Madagascar displayed notable stability, with production volumes consistently near 202 thousand tons each year and total market size moving within a tight range of 201.8 to 202.3 thousand tons. The sector rests on a broad agricultural foundation, comprising over 433,000 citrus farms primarily in the Amoron’i Mania, Menabe, and Boeny regions, where yields reach 20 to 40 tons per hectare. This extensive farming structure indicates significant latent potential, although production has not yet fully satisfied domestic and international demand, highlighting opportunities for expanded processing capacity.

A key development occurred in 2024 with the launch of a dedicated citrus processing unit at the AROMANIA Cooperative in Manandriana District. This project is part of the national 'One District One Factory' industrialization program, aimed at modernizing local production chains and adding value. Concurrently, the agro-processing sector saw consolidation, with about 60 producers organized under the Union of Fruit and Vegetable Producers (UPFL) processing roughly 1,500 tons of fruits and vegetables into jams for local and export markets, supported by the Association Agro-Industrie de Madagascar (AIM) to foster sustainable growth.
