Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2019, the citrus fruit market volume in the Americas expanded from 87.6 million tons to 92.0 million tons, supported by growing international trade and sustained consumer demand for convenient varieties such as seedless and easy-to-peel tangerines.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 triggered global supply-chain disruptions, leading to a contraction in market volume to 89.7 million tons and a sharp drop in market value to $110.0 billion. Pandemic-related challenges persisted into 2021, when volume further decreased to 88.8 million tons.

Market recovery began in 2022, with volume reaching 89.9 million tons, partly fueled by the expansion of natural citrus extract product lines by companies like TREATT, which boosted demand for citrus as raw material. However, Hurricane Ian in September 2022 caused significant damage to Florida's citrus crops, and citrus greening disease continued to pressure U.S. production, contributing to greater reliance on imports. By 2023, the market volume stabilized at 90.6 million tons.
