Chloride oxides and hydroxides market in Poland

From 2018 to 2021, production of chloride oxides and hydroxides in Poland fluctuated, with a notable increase to 2 795 t in 2021. The market volume in physical terms rose to 5 566 t in 2020 but then fell sharply to 4 428 t in 2021. In value terms, the market reached its peak at $5.5 million in 2019 before declining to $4.4 million by 2021.

Trade dynamics shifted significantly over the period. Import volumes remained strong, growing from 2 771 t in 2018 to over 5 500 t by 2024. Exports, however, expanded dramatically, especially from 2020 onward, surging from 181 t to 3 275 t in 2024. In monetary terms, import values exceeded $11 million by 2024, while export values rose to $3.6 million.

This period marked a transition toward greater export activity, with exports becoming a major component of the market. The reduction in domestic market size after 2020 coincided with this export growth.

Poland's exports of chloride oxides and hydroxides increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the country exported 181 tonnes, up by 133.1% compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, exports grew by 344.2%, equivalent to an annualized rate of 64.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia, Romania, and Bulgaria were the principal buyers of chloride oxides and hydroxides from Poland, accounting for 42.1%, 19.9%, and 14.8% of exports in kind, respectively. Together, they represented 76.7% of total exports in kind.

The market exhibited volatility during the observed period. In 2020, Poland's exports of chloride oxides and hydroxides reached 399 thousand US dollars, showing a sharp increase of 128.9% from the previous year. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 82 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest annual decline of 15.8%. The difference between the peak in 2020 and the trough in 2018 was 4.9-fold.
