Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2019, the market volume for chicken meat and offal in Eastern Europe remained stable at around 8.5 million tonnes. This period saw growing chicken meat production in Russia, with an increasing share of chilled meat, and Ukrainian producers actively expanding their export sales to MENA countries. In 2019, the meat offal segment in Russia experienced a dramatic increase of 102.8%, and Russia gained new export access to Brazil for meat and offal. However, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 led to a market contraction, reducing the volume to 7.8 million tonnes.

Market recovery began in 2021, supported by rising chicken meat prices in Russia. The volume grew to 8.0 million tonnes, aided by continued growth in production and exports of pork and offals in the region. In 2022, a significant expansion occurred, with the market reaching 8.6 million tonnes, driven by increased production and export of chicken meat from Russia, including a wider product assortment, and sustained export growth from Ukraine. By 2023, rising domestic consumption of chicken meat in Russia became a key driver, stimulating production and pushing the market volume to 8.7 million tonnes, while exports of poultry offal also saw substantial growth.

The period was marked by strategic shifts in export destinations. Russia's export of poultry meat and offal grew consistently, with China emerging as a major importer. The market structure evolved with a notable expansion in the offal segment and a move by producers towards offering more semi-prepared and value-added products like chilled and frozen semi-finished meats.
