Market volume rose notably to 11.6 million tons in 2022, driven by growing consumer awareness of nutritional benefits and a shift toward chicken as a lean protein source. This demand was met through advancements in freezing technology and enhanced cold-chain logistics, which improved product freshness and distribution efficiency across the region.

The upward trajectory continued in 2023, with the market reaching 11.6 million tons, sustained by the established trends of convenience-oriented products and robust retail inventory management.

In 2019, ASEAN chicken meat and offal production reached its peak at 10 337 thousand tonnes. This was followed by a slight decline to 10 266 thousand tonnes in 2020, representing a 0.7% decrease from the previous year. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 9 930 thousand tonnes. The most significant year-over-year change was a 4.1% increase in 2019, while the largest decline occurred in 2018 with a 2.9% drop.

ASEAN's chicken meat and offal exports showed considerable volatility during this period. In 2019, exports reached their lowest point at 59.1 thousand tonnes, marking an 82.5% decline from the previous year. The situation reversed dramatically in 2020 when exports surged to 406.5 thousand tonnes, representing a remarkable 587.9% year-over-year increase. The export volume in 2020 was 6.9 times higher than the 2019 level.

From 2017 to 2020, Japan, China, and Hong Kong remained the primary destinations for ASEAN's chicken meat and offal exports. Japan accounted for 38.3% of total export volume, followed by China at 18.0%, and Hong Kong at 3.9%. Together, these three markets represented 60.3% of ASEAN's total chicken meat and offal exports during this period.

The value of ASEAN's chicken meat and offal exports experienced significant fluctuations between 2017 and 2020. In 2019, export value reached its lowest point at 101 million US dollars, representing an 86.4% decline from the previous year. The following year saw a dramatic turnaround, with export value soaring to 978 million US dollars in 2020 - a 873.4% year-over-year increase. The 2020 export value was 9.7 times higher than the 2019 level.

Between 2017 and 2020, Japan, China, and Hong Kong dominated the value structure of ASEAN's chicken meat and offal exports. Japan accounted for 45.3% of total export value, China represented 19.8%, and Hong Kong contributed 4.5%. Collectively, these three markets represented 69.6% of ASEAN's total chicken meat and offal export value during this period.

ASEAN's chicken meat and offal imports grew for the third consecutive year in 2020, reaching 758.6 thousand tonnes. This represented an 18.4% increase from 2019 levels. Over the entire 2017-2020 period, imports increased by 40.8%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 12.1%.

From 2017 to 2020, Brazil, the United States, and the Netherlands consistently served as the main sources of ASEAN's chicken meat and offal imports. Together, these three countries accounted for 69.6% of total import volume throughout this period.

ASEAN's chicken meat and offal import value continued to grow for the third consecutive year in 2020, reaching 1 022 million US dollars. This represented a modest 2.2% increase compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, import value increased by 40.7%, equivalent to an average annual growth rate of 12.0%.

Throughout 2017-2020, Brazil, the United States, and the Netherlands formed the core of ASEAN's chicken meat and offal imports by value. Brazil accounted for 31.7% of total import value, followed by the United States at 24.7%, and the Netherlands at 9.4%. Together, these three countries represented 65.8% of ASEAN's total chicken meat and offal import value during this period.
