Earlier Report Observations

The fresh cherry market in Northern Europe saw its volume decrease from 35 806 t in 2018 to 33 301 t in 2020. During this period, volume regulations for tart cherries in the United States limited global supply, contributing to reduced import flows into the region.

Market conditions improved from 2021, with volume reaching 34 809 t that year and peaking at 36 423 t in 2022. This growth was supported by the expansion of convenience store chains in urban areas, which broadened consumer access, and by rising demand for organic fresh cherries among European consumers. The trend reversed in 2023 when the market contracted to 32 426 t, largely due to record Chilean cherry exports to China, which diverted supply away from European markets.
