The market reached 14,937 tons in 2019 before declining to 14,289 tons in 2020 and further to 13,002 tons in 2021. A significant recovery followed in 2022, with volume rising to 14,764 tons, then a modest contraction to 14,363 tons in 2023.

The year 2024 brought several developments in the broader grain sector. The federal council raised the ordinary import quota for bread grain to 90,000 tons for 2024 and 2025, and industrial tariffs were abolished from January 1. New food legislation, including origin labeling requirements for baked goods and limits for PFAS chemical residues, also took effect in February 2024.
