Cereal germ production in Niger rose from 4 305 tonnes in 2018 to 5 019 tonnes in 2019. This growth was supported by a ban on cereal exports outside the AES countries, which encouraged domestic processing, and by the exemption of small farmers from certain seed fees, stimulating local production. Production then fell to 4 039 tonnes in 2020, a decline that occurred alongside regulatory easing for direct seed sales to individuals.

The downward trend continued in 2021, with output dropping to 3 636 tonnes as new agri-food obligations raised compliance costs for producers. The most severe contraction came in 2022, when production plummeted to 2 491 tonnes. This was largely due to the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, which triggered a global surge in grain prices, reduced world stocks, and disrupted supply chains, severely affecting Niger's cereal sector through higher input costs and border closures.

A slight recovery to 2 550 tonnes took place in 2023, aided by relative price stability and the persistence of export restrictions, which helped the market find a new balance after the previous year's shocks.

Cereal germ production in Niger experienced a decline following two consecutive years of growth. In 2019, production reached its peak at 5 019 tonnes. However, by 2020, output had fallen to 4 039 tonnes, representing a significant decrease of 19.5% compared to the previous year. Looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, overall production increased by 36.9%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 11.0%. The most substantial year-on-year increase occurred in 2018, when production surged by 45.9%.
