After two years of growth, cereal germ production in South-eastern Asia declined. In 2020, the region produced 874 thousand tonnes of cereal germ, marking a sharp 33.0% drop from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 23.5%, with an average annual decline of 8.5%. The highest production level was recorded in 2019 at 1 305 thousand tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase of 10.5%.

Exports cereal germ from South-eastern Asia

The market showed significant volatility during these years. Import levels fluctuated 2.4 times between the low of 2019 and the high of 2020. From 2017 to 2020, Turkey and South Korea dominated cereal germ exports from South-eastern Asia, together accounting for 86.1% of total export volumes. The remaining 13.9% was distributed among various other destinations.

The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 3 348 thousand US dollars, which also experienced the largest decline of 31.7%.
