Cereal germ production and market volume in MERCOSUR expanded consistently from 2018 to 2022, rising from 462 thousand tons to 779 thousand tons. This growth occurred alongside the bloc's ongoing economic integration, which fostered coordinated agricultural policies and trade among member states, creating a stable environment for market development.

A minor contraction to 774 thousand tons occurred in 2023. This was influenced by a high incidence of leafhoppers in Argentina, which reduced corn planting area by 10% and constrained cereal output. Concurrent projections of record corn exports from Mercosul also increased pressure on the regional supply of cereal by-products.

Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production rose by 42%, with an average annual growth rate of 12.4%.
