Bangladesh's cereal germ production began at 64 679 tons in 2018, supported by the implementation of the Agricultural Marketing Act 2018 and the launch of a grain storage modernization and digitalization project, which aimed to upgrade market regulation and infrastructure. The same year also saw increased investment and market presence from multinational agribusinesses. However, production fell to 51 932 tons in 2019 as enhanced quality enforcement by the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate affected market operations.

A recovery followed in 2020, with output rising to 63 486 tons. This was influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated online trading, and a concurrent wheat import shortage that spurred greater domestic grain processing and boosted cereal germ supply. Production increased slightly to 65 860 tons in 2021, a period still marked by pandemic-related market adjustments.

The market contracted significantly in 2022 and 2023. Amendments to Bangladesh's labor regulations in 2022 increased operational costs for producers, contributing to a drop in production to 55 237 tons. In 2023, a sharp rise in food inflation reduced consumer demand, while the implementation of new wage structures for workers further pressured production expenses, leading output to plunge to 39 645 tons.

The highest production was recorded earlier in 2018 at 64 679 tons. The most substantial decline occurred in 2019, when production fell by 19.7%.
