Earlier Report Observations

The market for fresh cauliflowers and broccoli in Russia remained around 47 000 t in 2018-2019, largely supplied by imports. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted international supply chains, causing imports to plummet and the total market volume to drop to 32 400 t. In 2021, the lifting of restrictions on imports from Turkey allowed shipments to recover slightly, yet the market size stayed near 32 500 t.

From 2022, the market expanded sharply, reaching 62 000 t in 2023. This surge was primarily driven by a reorientation of imports toward alternative suppliers such as China, Uzbekistan and Turkey following the introduction of food sanctions. Favorable weather conditions in spring 2022 also contributed to a rise in domestic production. Concurrently, consumer prices for cabbage rose by about 44% in 2022, reflecting broader inflationary pressures and increased logistics costs.
