In 2024, market dynamics were influenced by several factors. Unusually low temperatures and wet weather in June delayed cauliflower head growth, tightening domestic supply. At the same time, the end of the Spanish cauliflower season shifted import reliance to France and Italy. Additionally, a trend toward cauliflower crusts in the pizza industry emerged as an innovative product development targeting health-conscious consumers.

Austria's production of cauliflowers and broccoli has increased for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 7 220 tonnes, marking a 25.3% rise compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 22.7%, which translates to an average annual increase of 7.1%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 4 750 tonnes, with the largest decline occurring that same year at 19.3%.

Austria's exports of cauliflowers and broccoli have declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country exported 770 tonnes, representing a sharp drop of 27.8% from the year before. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports fell by 36.4%, averaging an annual decrease of 14.0%. The highest export volume was in 2018 at 1 217 tonnes, while the largest increase occurred that year at 0.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Slovenia and Hungary were the primary buyers of Austrian cauliflowers and broccoli, together accounting for 85.4% of total exports in volume. Other trading partners played a much smaller role during this period.
