Cassava market volume in Congo demonstrated steady growth from 2018 to 2023, increasing from 1 571 thousand tons to 1 621 thousand tons. The market expanded gradually each year, with production stabilizing at 1 600 thousand tons in both 2021 and 2022.

The rise in production to 1 621 thousand tons in 2023 aligned with the launch of a major cassava value-chain development project. Supported by the United States and local agricultural ministries, this initiative aimed to modernize farming systems, promote bread-making cassava flour to replace wheat imports, lower bread production costs, and create jobs, directly encouraging higher cassava output.

In 2024, the government introduced a program to build cassava and maize processing plants intended to stabilize the market and transform local produce. Concurrently, cassava prices increased due to deteriorating rural roads, seasonal cultivation periods, and the depreciation of the Congolese franc against the US dollar.

Congo's cassava production grew for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 1 596 thousand tons of cassava, marking a 0.7% increase compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production rose by 3.8%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.3%.
