Earlier Report Observations

The cabbage market in Peru began the period with robust production of over 36 000 t in 2018, supported by a broader expansion in the country's agricultural sector, including growth in organic farming and increased export activity for fruits and vegetables. Output then gradually declined over the following years.

This downward trend accelerated sharply in 2022, when production fell to around 26 000 t. The drop was driven by rising input costs for farmers, exacerbated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine which disrupted global grain markets and elevated prices for key agricultural resources.

A strong recovery followed in 2023, with production rebounding to nearly 33 000 t. This growth was stimulated by higher vegetable prices across the market and updated sanitary and commercial regulations that facilitated agricultural exports, making cabbage cultivation more attractive.
