The German market for sodium or potassium bromides, iodides and iodide oxides showed considerable volatility in volume between 2019 and 2024. After a moderate increase to 2 955 t in 2020, consumption surged by approximately a third to reach 3 932 t in 2021. This was followed by a sharp contraction to 2 878 t in 2022, before a strong rebound led the market to its highest point of 4 371 t in 2024.

Domestic production remained a minor component of supply, fluctuating between 144 t and 344 t, with a notable low in 2022. The market was primarily supplied by imports, which ranged from 5 135 t to 6 585 t and peaked in 2021. Exports trended upward until 2021, reaching nearly 3 000 t, before declining significantly in 2023 and 2024.

Overall, the period from 2019 to 2024 was marked by an expansion in total market volume, which grew by more than 60% despite the intermediate dip in 2022, reflecting resilient underlying demand for these chemical products.

The lowest export volume was recorded in 2018 at 2 162 tonnes, with the largest decline of 26.2% occurring that year. In contrast, the largest increase of 25.3% was observed in 2019.

From 2017 to 2020, Japan, France, and Belgium were the primary markets for Germany's exports of bromides, iodides, and iodide oxides in volume terms. Japan accounted for 44.5% of exports, France for 15.4%, and Belgium for 6.3%, collectively representing 66.2% of total export flows.
