Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2020, Uzbekistan's market for bran and cereal processing residues grew from 1.3 million tons to 1.33 million tons. This expansion was underpinned by government initiatives to develop seed farming, including the modernization of grain processing facilities with World Bank financing, which boosted domestic grain output and the supply of milling by-products. In 2020, global demand for grain processing residues exceeding $2 billion further stimulated interest in production and potential export, supporting market growth.

The market volume temporarily contracted to 1.27 million tons in 2021, primarily due to a sharp drop in imports to 30 thousand tons while production remained above 1.2 million tons. The adoption of a comprehensive seed development decree in early 2022 reinforced state support for the agricultural sector. By the end of 2022, the market recovered to 1.41 million tons, aided by a rebound in import volumes and the ongoing implementation of government modernization programs.

Driven by rising domestic demand for grain and its processed products, as well as the continued modernization of seed farming enterprises, the market volume reached 1.45 million tons in 2023. State policies focusing on grain quality monitoring and support for export activities contributed to market stability and the development of the bran and residues segment.
