The market for bran, sharps, and residues from cereal and legume processing in Trinidad and Tobago saw its volume decline from 23 098 t in 2018 to 22 006 t in 2019. It then stabilized near 21 941 t in 2020. During this year, the COVID-19 pandemic caused global supply chain disruptions, but the government's measure to increase foreign exchange supply via the EXIM Bank supported manufacturers and importers of essential goods, helping to maintain market volume.

A sharp rebound followed in 2021, with market volume growing to 24 559 t. This increase coincided with government action to remove VAT on an expanded list of food items including cereals and with further enhanced foreign exchange access for importers. These steps alleviated the burden of soaring global food prices and supply chain costs. The trend reversed in 2022 as volume dropped to 21 942 t, pressured by record-high local food prices and shortages reported at year's end, which dampened consumption.

By 2023, the market volume showed a slight adjustment to 21 408 t, indicating a period of stabilization following the previous year's contraction.

In 2020, the country produced 19 507 tonnes of these products, marking a gradual decrease of 4.9% compared to 2019. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production fell by 5.7%, with an average annual decline rate of 1.9%.

The value of bran, sharps and residues from cereal or legume processing production in Trinidad and Tobago has also dropped for the third year in a row. In 2020, the output was valued at 3 578 thousand US dollars, representing a significant decline of 16.8% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production value decreased by 43.6%, with an average annual reduction of 17.4%.

The lowest level was recorded in 2017, while exports peaked in 2019 at 795 tonnes, creating a 16-fold difference between these two years. In 2020, Trinidad and Tobago exported 473 tonnes of bran, sharps and residues from cereal or legume processing, which represents a 40.5% decrease from the previous year. The most substantial increase occurred in 2018, with growth reaching 771.1%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Saint Lucia and Suriname dominated Trinidad and Tobago's exports in volume terms, together accounting for 85.0% of total shipments. The remaining 15.0% was distributed among various other countries.

Export values exhibited irregular patterns, reflecting a volatile market environment. The lowest value was recorded in 2017, while the highest occurred in 2019 at 167 thousand US dollars, creating an 11.3-fold difference between these years. In 2020, exports of bran, sharps and residues from cereal or legume processing from Trinidad and Tobago totaled 87 thousand US dollars, down 48.0% from the previous year. The most significant increase took place in 2018, with growth reaching 604.1%.

The lowest import volume was recorded in 2019 at 2 285 tonnes, while the largest decrease occurred in 2018 at 23.8%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Jamaica, Guyana, and Belize were Trinidad and Tobago's main suppliers of bran, sharps and residues from cereal or legume processing in volume terms. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 675 thousand US dollars, while the largest decrease occurred in 2018 at 33.8%.
