The market continued to expand over the next two years, reaching a peak of 469 thousand tons in 2022, then moderated slightly to 458 thousand tons in 2023.

This movement was driven primarily by changes in domestic production, which fell in 2019 but exceeded 517 thousand tons in 2020 and remained above 500 thousand tons for most of the period. The market was consistently shaped by substantial export volumes, which averaged 68 thousand tons annually and were a major determinant of domestic availability, while import levels remained marginal.

In 2024, preliminary trade flows show exports of 58.6 thousand tons and imports of 3.2 thousand tons. Global economic conditions, including stability and lower world food prices during the year, formed the broader environment for the sector.
