The bituminous mixtures market in Poland opened the period at 6 341 thousand tons in 2018, supported by accelerated road network expansion driven by state and European Union infrastructure investments. However, market volume then contracted over the next two years, falling to 4 236 thousand tons by 2020. This decline was partly due to supply chain disruptions and project delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

From 2021 onwards, the market recovered and grew, reaching 5 921 thousand tons in 2023. This growth was driven by the continuation of public and EU-funded road investments, alongside the introduction of stricter emission and environmental requirements for asphalt production under the EU Green Deal. These regulations encouraged the development and adoption of innovative technologies like warm mix asphalt and recycled asphalt pavement (RAP), enhancing sustainability while meeting infrastructure demand.

By 2024, the market volume stabilized at around 5 889 thousand tons. It remained supported by significant investments in road infrastructure and sustained trends toward ecological asphalt solutions and emission-reducing technologies in line with EU policies.

Poland's bituminous mixtures production declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, output was valued at 246.6 million US dollars, marking a moderate 7.9% decrease from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 4%, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.3%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 362.0 million US dollars, which saw the largest increase of 41.0%. The most significant decline occurred in 2019, dropping by 26.1%.

Poland's bituminous mixtures production volume fell for the second consecutive year. In 2020, 4,247 thousand tonnes were produced, representing a substantial 10.3% decline compared to the year before. From 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 13.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.6%. The peak was in 2018 at 6,352 thousand tonnes, which experienced the largest increase of 30.0%. The sharpest drop was in 2019, down by 25.5%.

After two years of growth, Poland's exports of bituminous mixtures declined. In 2020, the country exported 23,661 tonnes, reflecting a 14.2% year-on-year decrease. Between 2017 and 2020, exports rose by 42.7%, equating to an annualized rate of 12.6%. The highest volume was recorded in 2019 at 27,568 tonnes, which saw the largest increase of 29.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main destinations for Poland's bituminous mixtures exports in kind were Czechia, accounting for 25.0% of exports, Belgium with 24.5%, and Germany at 18.0%. Together, these three countries made up 67.5% of total export flows.

Following a two-year uptrend, Poland's bituminous mixtures exports in value terms declined. In 2020, export volume amounted to 14,960 thousand US dollars, showing a sharp 59.0% reduction compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports decreased by 11.3%, with an annualized rate of 3.9%. The peak value was in 2019 at 36,471 thousand US dollars, while the largest increase occurred in 2018, up by 55.1%.

The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 15,791 thousand US dollars, while the largest increase was in 2018, up by 40.1%.
