Earlier Report Observations

The biodiesel market volume in Lithuania showed considerable volatility from 2018 to 2024. After a modest start at 89 thousand tons in 2018, consumption surged by over 40% to reach 131 thousand tons in 2020, marking the highest point in the period.

This peak was followed by a multi-year contraction, with the market falling to 115 thousand tons in 2021 and further declining to a low of 71 thousand tons in 2023. The sharp reduction coincided with a period of rising exports, which exceeded 190 thousand tons in 2022, diverting production away from the domestic market.

A strong rebound occurred in 2024, with market volume jumping by 42% to 101 thousand tons. This recovery was supported by a combination of steady domestic production around 150 thousand tons and a notable decrease in export volumes compared to the previous years.
