Earlier Report Observations

The Polish market for beet pulp and sugar-manufacture waste opened the 2018-2024 period at 1.2 million tons, following the EU's abolition of sugar production quotas and the closure of numerous domestic sugar factories, which reconfigured the industry's structure. Market volume then expanded to 1.4 million tons by 2019. However, it contracted to 1.1 million tons in 2020, as higher sugar prices, driven by production constraints, limited sugar output and consequently the generation of processing waste.

After recovering to 1.2 million tons in 2021, the market experienced a slight dip to 1.2 million tons in 2022. This was influenced by the onset of the war in Ukraine and soaring energy costs, which disrupted sugar production and its by-product streams.

From 2023 onwards, the market entered a phase of consistent growth, reaching 1.4 million tons by 2024. This expansion was primarily driven by increased profitability and record planting of sugar beets, which boosted sugar production and the associated volume of waste, leading to logistical challenges in managing surplus beet pulp.
