Earlier Report Observations

The beer market volume in Portugal grew from 627 million liters in 2018 to 740 million liters in 2022, with a notable contraction to 592 million liters in 2020 followed by a strong recovery. In value terms, the market expanded from USD 610 million to USD 722 million over the same five-year period, reflecting similar growth dynamics.

Domestic production of beer reached 832 million liters in 2022, its highest point in the period, while the country consistently exported more than 190 million liters annually, maintaining a net exporter position. Imports, though smaller in volume, peaked at 106 million liters in 2022.

In the years following 2022, import volumes declined to 56 million liters by 2025, whereas export volumes remained elevated between 177 million and 195 million liters, continuing the established trade surplus for Portuguese beer.
