Earlier Report Observations
After a slight contraction in 2019, Niger's production of beef, sheep, and goat fat grew steadily through 2021, exceeding 3,200 tons. This increase was supported by mass livestock vaccination programs against major diseases, which improved herd health and productivity, alongside sustained government policies focused on sectoral transformation and food security.
Production stabilized around 3,150–3,200 tons from 2022, constrained by a significant fodder deficit that impacted animal rearing. The market continued to be stimulated by events like the SAHEL-NIGER agricultural fair and, in 2024, by the launch of a major sector modernization program funded by the World Bank.
