From 2018 to 2020, the market volume for beef, sheep, and goat fats in Brazil grew from 1 396 thousand tons to 1 450 thousand tons. This expansion was driven by investments and innovations in the beef sector, rising domestic consumption of red meat, and strong export demand, particularly from China. Additional support came from incentives for biofuel production, which increased the processing of livestock by-products.

After peaking in 2020, the market contracted to 1 177 thousand tons by 2023. The decline began in 2021 when increased costs for feed and other inputs, linked to currency exchange rates, raised production expenses and constrained supply. The downward trend continued in 2022 and 2023, reducing the overall market volume by nearly 20% over three years.

Toward the end of the period, Brazil implemented major initiatives to enhance sustainability and traceability in livestock farming. The state of Pará launched its Sustainable Livestock Program, mandating full cattle identification by 2026. Simultaneously, Brazil solidified its position as the world's largest beef producer through advances in feedlot technology, genetics, and certification systems, leading to a sharp rise in exports of premium certified beef such as Angus.

The largest decline occurred in 2020 at 42.6%, while the biggest increase was in 2019 at 400.8%.

Between 2018 and 2021, the United States, China, and the Netherlands were the top buyers of Brazil's beef, sheep, or goat fat exports by volume. The United States accounted for 22.6% of exports, China for 18.8%, and the Netherlands for 12.5%, together making up 53.8% of total export volumes.
