Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2023, the market volume for beef, sheep, and goat fat in Bahrain fluctuated, peaking at 1 836 tons in 2019 before declining to a low of 1 620 tons in 2022. The market then saw a slight recovery, reaching 1 648 tons in 2023. This overall contraction was marked by a significant reduction in available supply from abroad over the period.

Domestic production followed a similar trajectory, rising to 1 693 tons in 2019 before dipping in 2020. Output then stabilized, remaining between 1 557 and 1 633 tons from 2021 onward. In contrast, imports fell precipitously from 219 tons in 2018 to merely 7 tons in 2022, drastically altering the market's supply composition.

The sharp and sustained decline in imports was the primary driver behind the overall market contraction after 2019. With exports remaining negligible, the market from 2021 forward was sustained almost entirely by domestic production, which showed modest year-to-year growth.
