Earlier Report Observations

North Macedonia's production of fresh or chilled beans varied considerably over the 2018–2023 period. Output began at 12 248 tonnes in 2018, declined to 10 820 tonnes the following year, then edged up to 11 105 tonnes in 2020. A steep drop to 9 707 tonnes occurred in 2021, before a recovery to 10 839 tonnes in 2022. Production closed the period at 10 435 tonnes in 2023.

The modest rise in 2020 took place against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, which boosted consumer interest in healthy, non-perishable foods such as beans. This shift in preferences supported demand during the year.

By 2023, the continuing war in Ukraine was exerting pressure on agricultural supply chains and input costs across the region. These disruptions contributed to the slight decrease in bean production observed in North Macedonia that year.
