Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for natural barium sulphate in Brazil contracted from 131.8 thousand tons in 2018 to 105.5 thousand tons in 2022. This decline was primarily due to a steep fall in imports, which dropped from 32.1 thousand tons to 6.1 thousand tons over the period, while domestic production held constant at 100 thousand tons annually.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 severely disrupted global supply chains, causing a sharp reduction in barytes imports that year. Demand from the Brazilian oil and gas industry, a major consumer of barytes, continued to influence the market but could not offset the import contraction. Supply chains began a gradual recovery in 2021, and by 2022 the market volume stabilized around 105.5 thousand tons.

Following 2022, import volumes rebounded, reaching 19 thousand tons by 2025, signaling renewed inflows of barytes into the country. Throughout the entire period, national companies like Ouro Branco and Adexim Comexim maintained their supply of high-purity barytes for various industrial applications, supported by consistent demand from essential sectors.
