Earlier Report Observations

The barley market volume in Uzbekistan began the period at 214 thousand tons in 2018. It experienced a minor decline to 205 thousand tons in 2019, followed by a rise to 234 thousand tons in 2020, driven primarily by an increase in domestic production to 162 thousand tons.

A sharp contraction occurred in 2021, with the market shrinking to 157 thousand tons as production fell to 96 thousand tons and imports dropped to 61 thousand tons. This was reversed in 2022 when the market rebounded to 236 thousand tons, supported by recovery in production to 123 thousand tons and a surge in imports to 113 thousand tons.

Growth continued in 2023, with market volume reaching 323 thousand tons on the back of further production growth to 164 thousand tons and imports of 160 thousand tons. High import levels persisted into 2024, with 159 thousand tons imported, aided by ample barley supplies from Kazakhstan where a record harvest boosted regional exports.
