Market volume dipped to 29 985 t in 2021 before recovering to a peak of 32 506 t in 2022. The 2022 rebound occurred alongside stricter market monitoring and sanitation campaigns targeting food outlets, which helped raise quality standards and consumer confidence. Nepal's barley production has increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 31 147 tonnes of barley, marking a 2.0% increase compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 2.1%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 0.7%. The lowest production volume was recorded in 2018 at 30 510 tonnes, while the largest decline occurred in the same year, with a 0.0% decrease.
