Barley production in Zimbabwe increased from 56 713 tons in 2018 to 58 693 tons in 2020, with the growth in 2020 partly attributed to above-normal rainfall from the La Niña weather phenomenon that boosted crop yields.

Output dipped slightly in 2021 to 57 706 tons, a year when Delta Corporation's value chain financing helped achieve national self-sufficiency in barley. The following year, the Grain Marketing Board's regulations under Statutory Instrument 188 of 2021 formalized control over barley sales, providing a structured market framework as production edged up to 58 028 tons.

By 2023, barley production recovered to 58 718 tons, continuing the overall upward trend since 2018.
