From 2018 to 2020, Mozambique's banana market volume grew from 403.6 K t to 415.8 K t, supported by a rise in production from 495 K t to 535 K t. Government investment in irrigation kits for small-scale water-efficient farming in 2018 boosted agricultural output, while the introduction of weekly agricultural market monitoring in 2019 improved sector management. By 2020, alignment of agricultural projects with the Government's Five-Year Plan emphasized environmental and social governance, helping mitigate risks like drought and sustaining production growth.

After 2020, both production and domestic market volume declined, with production falling to 371.4 K t and market volume dropping to 236.3 K t by 2023. However, exports increased from 119.2 K t in 2020 to 164.8 K t in 2022, driven largely by the 2021 inauguration of Bananalândia's processing plant in Moamba district, which targeted demanding export markets. The production drop in 2023 was influenced by drought conditions highlighted in environmental and social management frameworks. Expansion of commercial production using modern fertilizers and technologies continued, but climatic challenges and persistent Banana Fusarium wilt disease pressured overall volumes.
