The 2022 decline coincided with the introduction of a regulation requiring 35% of whole, fresh, unpeeled local aubergines to be sold in bulk or in bags, which altered commercial and labeling practices. In 2023, under the continued packaging rule, the market slightly recovered to 132.8 tons, indicating an adjustment to the new requirements.
