The fresh aubergine market in Cameroon increased from 2189 t in 2018 to 2239 t in 2023, supported by consistently high local consumption embedded in traditional cuisine, which ensured stable demand. Government policies promoting agricultural modernization and improved productivity for vegetable crops provided sustained support to production throughout the period.

Market volume reached 2239 t in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on consumer purchasing power, with seasonal supply contributing to availability. A modest dip to 2209 t occurred in 2021 alongside recovering export prices. Growth resumed from 2022, aided by the launch of the Central Plain project to secure arable land for private operators and accelerate import-substitution, as well as a rising number of SMEs entering vegetable production and distribution.

Cameroon's aubergine production has grown for the third year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 2 256 tonnes of aubergines, marking a slight increase of 1.5% compared to the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, production rose by 3.9%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.3%.

Exports reached their lowest point in 2018 at 3 700 kg, then surged to a peak in 2017, resulting in a 5.4-fold difference between these years. The lowest value was recorded in 2020 at 1 032 US dollars, while the highest was in 2018 at 2 195 US dollars, showing a 2.1-fold gap. In 2020, exports dropped by 50.4% compared to 2019. The largest increase happened in 2018, with a rise of 95.7%.
