ASEAN's aubergine production volume has increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the region produced 921.7 thousand tonnes of aubergines, marking a controlled year-over-year increase of 8.9%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 15.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.8%.

ASEAN's aubergine production value has risen for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the output of aubergines was valued at 1 273 million US dollars in ASEAN, up by 22.4% compared to the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, production value increased by 25.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of 7.8%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 971 million US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 4.4%.

Exports aubergines from ASEAN

Exports in kind, t

Foreign aubergine supplies from ASEAN declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, ASEAN exported 4 352 tonnes of aubergines, representing a slight year-over-year decline of 2.6%. The highest export volume was recorded in 2018 at 4 855 tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 12.8%. The largest decline occurred in 2019 with a drop of 7.9%.

From 2017 to 2020, Japan and China were the main buyers of aubergines from ASEAN, together accounting for 3.2% of total exports in volume terms.
