This investment expanded cultivated area and yields, boosting supply. Exports rose in 2019 to 109.3 thousand tonnes as Mexico solidified its position as the world's leading asparagus exporter, aided by growing U.S. demand and smoother EU phytosanitary procedures.

The domestic market size fluctuated significantly, dropping to 126.7 thousand tonnes in 2021 when exports surged to 202.4 thousand tonnes on strong European gourmet demand and pandemic resilience. Market size recovered to 208.2 thousand tonnes in 2022 after Mexico regained export leadership following production issues in Peru, and reached 224.3 thousand tonnes in 2023 as exports eased to 123.3 thousand tonnes. Regulatory changes, including mandatory front-of-package labeling and strengthened sanitary norms, influenced production and market conditions throughout the period.

In 2024, exports amounted to 137.8 thousand tonnes, supported by expanded refrigerated infrastructure in Altamira and tariff-free access to the EU under the updated trade agreement. Exports declined to 94.5 thousand tonnes in 2025.
