The Norwegian fresh apple market volume fluctuated between 56 000 t and 60 000 t from 2018 to 2023, reaching a peak of 60 096 t in 2019 before dropping to 56 006 t in 2020. It recovered to 59 587 t in 2021, then declined again in 2022 before a modest increase to 58 846 t in 2023.

These movements were driven by contrasting trends in domestic production and imports. Apple production in Norway grew from 14 878 t in 2018 to 20 104 t in 2023, with a significant surge in 2021. However, imports, which account for the majority of supply, gradually fell from 44 656 t in 2019 to 38 784 t in 2023, offsetting the rise in local output.

Norway's apple production reached 18,721 tonnes in 2021, marking a significant 55.3% increase compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2018 to 2021, production grew by 25.8%, with an average annual growth rate of 8.0%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2020 at 12,055 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 23.5%.

In 2019, Norway exported 313 tonnes of apples, the highest level recorded, but this dropped sharply to just 9 tonnes in 2021, representing an 86.5% year-over-year decline.
