Earlier Report Observations

The European fresh apple market volume experienced notable fluctuations between 2018 and 2022. Starting at 19.8 million metric tons in 2018, it contracted sharply to 16.4 million metric tons in 2019. A sustained recovery then pushed the volume to 18.4 million metric tons by 2021, before a moderate decline to 17.3 million metric tons in 2022.

In 2023, the market volume increased to 17.7 million metric tons. This growth was underpinned by rising consumer demand for premium, organic, and processed apple products, which led to higher import volumes. For 2024, market dynamics continued to be shaped by a strong consumer shift towards organic apples, expanding online sales channels, and ongoing innovations in cold-chain logistics and precision agriculture that enhanced supply chain efficiency.
