Geopolitical shifts and the exit of Western pharmaceutical companies in 2022 triggered a market transformation, accelerating import substitution. Domestic production rose to over 1.1 thousand tons, helping the overall market reach 3.4 thousand tons. With continued state support, production kept increasing, the product range widened, and the market grew to 4.2 thousand tons in 2023. By 2024, market volume had climbed to 5.5 thousand tons, with Russian manufacturers strengthening their lead and capturing nearly 45% of the market.

In 2025, antibiotic production in Russia soared to 15.9 thousand tons, fueled by the ongoing expansion of the product portfolio and the introduction of new domestic drugs.

In 2021, foreign antibiotics supplies from Russia amounted to 64 tons, representing a sharp decline of 23.4% compared to 2020. The largest decrease occurred in 2019, falling by 32.7%, while the biggest increase was recorded in 2020, jumping by 96.9%.

In 2021, antibiotics deliveries from Russia amounted to 3.8 million US dollars, which is 68.3% lower year-over-year.
